The wheels scooped up stones which hammered ominously under the car.
The wheels scooped up stones和stones which hammered ominously under the car.
John went to see his bank manager who sent the remains of wallet and the money to the special department of the Bank of England in Newcastle:the Mutilate Ladies!

He stood up and gave a shout of nervous laughter to which their cries echoed dismay.
(from James Joyce's "Ulysses")
Stephen turned and saw that the cold gaze which had measured him was not all unkind.
(from James Joyce's "Ulysses")
