As is symbolically illustrated in the pictures,they are showing the different ratio between the number of fishes and fishing-boats.In the first picture,there were a large number of fishes and only one fishing-boat in 1900.On the contrast,in 1995,there are a lot of fishing-boats but only one fish in the other picture(怎么改成：很多船正在捕一条鱼).And the painter named them A Brief History of World Commercial Fishing.
We can easily infer that the cartoonist’s purpose to paint these pictures is to show us that with the development of the commercial fishing the number and species of fish have severely decreased over the past/last?century (and more 过去的一个多世纪).But why ocean resources are less and less?The answer will be significantly complex.While two points in it is important.One is that the technologies of fishing are more and more advent(先进的?),so that people get everything in the sea.The other is that it is increasingly hard to meet human’s greed.
If we want to resolve these difficulties we are suffering,many aspects should be changed.Firstly,governments should pay sufficient attention to oceans,presistent(坚持) to refine the relevant/relative laws and effectively punish offenders.Then,as common people,we should learn and do more to protect the environment of oceans and keep the biological balance of the oceans.Then,we will have a bright future.
