We chose the Aquaria because of the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor and it was one of those experiences where you really have to wonder if the reviews are legitimate.The place was OK and admittedly the food was good,however there were really substantial drawbacks.The plumbing was dodgy and the airconditioning was not sufficient to adequately cool the room,despite the fact that we were encouraged to have an airconditioned room it would have been better to have had a fan.I pointed out to the host Glyn that the airconditing was not adequate and he didnt seem to care at all.
The New Zealand hosts that had been raved about provided no assistance at all even when requested and the only thing that they were concerned about was if you were eating at the restaurant.Most of the rooms are around the pool and are if anyone is swimming are noisy and public,Jenny the host clapped her hands at the children in the pool telling them to be quiet,a bit like a grumpy school school teacher.Jenny excused this on the basis that she had her very elderly mother staying who didn't like noise.
The most dissapointing thing is that the Aquaria rips you off.We had paid a deposit in US dollars which they credited at a rate that was 20% below the official exchange,and when leaving they did the same and quoted in US dollars that was way below the exchange rate,I queried this and they said that they used the moneychangers rate in town - when I pointed out that their rate was far below the local moneychangers rate they called him,confirmed that I was correct and refused to change the bill.This is just opportunistic dishonesty and I was appalled that they brazenly ripped us off.If you really feel you need to stay at the Aquaria make sure you have sufficient Indonesian currency.Otherwise chose one of the many other resorts in and around the town,I wish we had have.
