情态助动词基本的有十四个：may, might; can, could; will, would; shall, should; must, need, dare, used to, ought to. had better
系动词有：be, become, seem；look, feel, smell, taste, sound；get, grow, turn, go ,run
楼主所说的情态动词后面是可以接系动词的,不过在系动词后常接形容词,例如：
He may be very busy now, for the files are piling up like hill in front of him.
His face must turn red when he said love to her.
后面接动词的情况比较少,能想到的就是下面的用法：
I am afraid I must be going now.
