More and more people live in towns instead of on farms and in villages.

都是有两个介词词组,为什么第一句中ON 和IN都要,而第二句中就只用了一个IN呢?

第一个因为三者搭配的介词不都相同,三个名词得分别用不同的介词来连接所以不可省略：
【in】 town 【on】farm 【in】 village
而如果要是town和village搁在一起,把这三个词调一下个可就不一样了.由于town和village的介词相同,所以可用同一个in来连接：

第二个两者搭配的介词相同所以可以省略：
【in】 a classroom 【in】 a department store
classroom和department store可以用相同的介词in,所以就省略成了：

而如果后者不是a department store 而是farm,那就不一样了：
